Optimizing Drug Screening Using HepG2 Cells
HepG2 cells are widely adopted in pharmaceutical research to screen drugs for hepatotoxicity and metabolism. Their functional cytochrome P450 enzyme system mimics liver metabolism, providing predictive data on human responses. In contrast, Vero cells lack these enzymes, making them unsuitable for such assays. HepG2 cells thus play a pivotal role in early-stage drug development and safety profiling.
